Batı Marksizminin kurucu isimlerinden Georg Lukács, 1885'te Macaristan'da doğdu. 1919'da kurulan Macaristan Konseyler Cumhuriyeti döneminde devrimci hükümetin "eğitimden sorumlu halk komiserliği" görevini yürüttü. Konseyler Cumhuriyeti'nin yıkılmasının ardından Viyana'ya sürgüne giden Lukács, 1923'te Tarih ve Sınıf Bilinci derlemesini yayınladı. Bu derleme Lukács'ın en tanınmış eseridir. Lukács, toplumsal ilişkiler ile meta ilişkileri arasındaki bağları ve dönüşümleri inceledi. Aynı zamanda toplumsal bir devrim için gerekli olan felsefi ve estetik arkaplanı araştırdı. En önemli bulgusu ise kapitalist toplumun sürekliliğini sağlayan temel motivasyonun "şeyleşme (reification)" olduğunu ileri sürdü. Şeyleşme olgusunun anlaşılabilmesi için Lukács, Hegelci "bütün", "diyalektik", "gerçeklik" ve Marksçı "devrim", "yabancılaşma", "sınıf", "tarih" kavramlarının doğru kavranılması gerektiğini ileri sürdü. Georg Lukács, one of the founding figures of Western Marxism, was born in Hungary in 1885. During the Hungarian Republic of Councils established in 1919, he served as the "people's commissar in charge of education" of the revolutionary government. After the fall of the Republic of councils, Lukács went into exile in Vienna and published compilation of history and class consciousness in 1923. This compilation is Lukács' best-known work. Lukács decried the ties and transformations between social relations and meta relations. It also explored the philosophical and aesthetic background necessary for a social revolution. His most important finding was that "reification" is the main motivation that ensures the continuity of capitalist society. In order to understand the phenomenon of reification, Lukács argued that the Hegelian concepts of "whole", "dialectic", "reality" and the Marxian "revolution", "alienation", "class", "history" must be understood correctly. In all his work on culture, Lukács developed a perspective that made it possible to rediscover society and history in concrete reality. In this thesis, three main inquiries will be made for Lukács' discussion of the problem of realism: i) realism epistemologically, ii) realism ideologically, iii). and realism as literary. Therefore, a thesis will be revealed by focusing on both the intellectual background and contemporary discussions of reality in Lukács.
